Support Ethnic Enables aims by doing one of the following:

By donating to Ethnic Enable your donation will be used in the following ways:

  • £30 will allow 1 child to take place in activity sessions once per week for a month which are designed to increase self-confidence, boost self esteem and allow them to mix with their peers and reduce isolation. A minimum of 14 children can take part in each session
  • £32 will allow a volunteer to befriend an individual with disability for one month
  • £225 will allow our outreach service to continue to assist 20 individuals with disability and 10 carers for one month
  • £9 will allow our volunteer to support our Play-scheme activities whereby the child is picked up from home and escorted to the activity and escorted home after the session. Without volunteers providing a valuable escorting service the majority of our children would not be able to attend the sessions as their parents do not have access to affordable, accessible transport. 15 volunteers will be required to support a session with 14 children.
  • £50 will pay towards our volunteer project which will ensure that volunteers receive appropriate training in health & safety, cultural requirements and first aid- prior to supporting
  • £60 will help establish carers support groups whereby we can provide training and support to carers which will allow them to become more assertive, confident and aware of their rights and eligibility.
  • Any amount donated by Ethnic Enable supporters will contribute to the projects outlined.

Background Information- Why donate?

  • If you are disabled and come from a minority ethnic background you are more likely to live in or on the poverty line in comparison to white counterparts
  • If you are disabled and come from a minority ethnic background you are more likely to live in over-crowded, poor quality, inadequate housing
  • If you are disabled and from the ME (minority ethnic) community you are more likely to be cared for by an informal carer (family) If you are disabled and from the ME community you are more likely to not be in receipt of eligible benefits
  • If you are disabled and from the ME community you are more likely to be cut-off from you peers and ethnic community
  • ME communities perceive disability as being a curse and something to be ashamed of- therefore parents/carers of disabled children are more likely to hide their disability
  • If you are disabled and from the ME community you will have less access to your own local community 'hotspots' such as mosques, temples, community centres due to lack of accessibility and a understanding of the needs of an individual with disability.
  • Carers of children with a disability are more likely to be a single parent
  • Individuals with disability from the ME community and their carers are more vulnerable to being affected by domestic violence and sexual abuse
